Power Butter:
Mobile App MVP
A health & fitness mobile app to help users stay on track of their goals. The goal of this project was to design a high-fidelity prototype of an all-in-one mobile app experience for the brand, Power Butter, where users can organize their nutritional intake through a health tracker and subscribe to a monthly subscription for lactose-free whey protein.
As the Visual Designer of this 5-week project, I collaborated with 4 other designers to create a high-fidelity prototype of an iOS mobile application for our client, Power Butter. I conducted product and user research to create a health tracker that will help Power Butter users stay on track with their fitness goals while creating a design system that represented the brand.
Overview
Business Needs
We started off by first meeting our client with the intention of getting to know his product and the vision for this MVP. After our conversation, we dived into the research that was given to us and began our design process.
User Needs
Based on our first meeting with our client and the initial data we were given, we were able to build a persona to better understand our target audience who would be using our application. Meet Joe and Mckenzie! We realized there were 2 key aspects to Joe’s needs:
They lack the motivation to reach their fitness goals
They don’t realize they need to order more protein until they’re out
Problem & Solution
Solution Statement: By providing an all-in-one app experience where Joe can organize his nutritional intake through a tracker and subscribe to a monthly subscription for lactose-free whey protein, he will be able to improve his physical activity and performance.
Problem Statement: Joe and Mckenzie want to improve their physical activity and performance. However, he forgets to order protein regularly and needs more structure for keeping track of his nutritional intake.
User Research
As a team, we realized that although we were presented data for the product, we needed more information about how our target audience thinks. We created two different types of surveys, one to understand the habits of fitness enthusiasts and two to see how they shop for products on an app. We were able to receive over 170 survey results to better understand our target audience.
Main findings:
Designing the Health Tracker
Based on the first conversation with our client and design studios we initially wanted to create a solution that would encompass a health tracker, eCommerce, and community feed. I was specifically in charge of the development of the health tracker.
Competitive Research
When ideating, I conducted competitive research through a SWOT analysis between 3 health tracking apps; My Fitness Pal, Apple Health, and Lose It!
Userflow
I created a user flow to understand each step that the user would take when using the health tracker.
Sketches
Initial sketches of my tracker were created for me to get a vision of what the tracker could look like. I referenced many features from our competitors.
Wireframes
Grayscale wireframes were created and presented to our client. This was to make sure that we were all on the same page before heading on to high-fidelity versions.
Design System
As the Visual Designer of this project, I made sure that the app’s UI visually flowed seamlessly. With the branding that was given to us, the Interaction Lead and I created a design system that would best represent Power Butter and its users.
User Testing
Research Goal: For users to complete a series of tasks on the MVP in under 7 minutes and 45 seconds.

Power Butter’s Mobile App MVP
Reflecting back on this project I learned the importance of conducting user research at any point of the process and asking good questions when building a product. Looking forward, I would want to conduct more usability tests to understand what features would be useful to add to this MVP and make iterations based on user feedback. As Power Butter launches, the mobile application would be a great tool to retain loyal customers and promote the healthy lifestyle that the brand represents.
